Tamara Zlobina

Snowball Award

2025

Tamara Zlobina (nominated by Tamara Martsenyuk) is an important figure in Ukrainian feminism. She has 20 years of experience in the fight for gender equality in Ukrainian society.

With a PhD in Philosophy, Tamara sees the main task of philosophy as shaping a contemporary worldview and helping society implement values in practice, using her superpower — the ability to explain complex things in simple language. In particular, her 2008 project “Feminism is” was one of the first successful and visible attempt to popularize feminism in Ukraine. “Feminism is” is a fun comic book consisting of twenty drawings, similar to the popular LOVE IS series.

In 2016, Tamara co-founded the CSO Expert Resource Gender in Detail. Initially a niche media outlet focused on gender issues, over the years the project has grown into a comprehensive infrastructure of societal change, combining a research center, media platform, consulting services, and active community engagement, including advocacy. The project’s social media channels unite an active community of change agents and reach more than 100,000 people weekly. https://genderindetail.org.ua/

Tamara not only understands the specifics of multiple discrimination but also centers the importance of an intersectional critical perspective in her public messaging. She says: “We have to make society emancipated during the war to come out not only as winners but also as equals.” She continues to advance her ideas, including a new concept that combines gender mainstreaming with comprehensive defense. She offers practical steps for building a new society and promoting feminist ideas through her writing — from academic publications to media columns and personal blogs, including https://www.linkedin.com/in/tamara-zlobina-b727375/

She is a great role model in successfully combining education, expertise, and practice-oriented activism to build a society where gender equality, non-discrimination, and human rights are fundamental.
