Natalia Broniarczyk

Snowball Award

2025

Natalia Broniarczyk (nominated by Katarzyna Wojnicka) is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Polish abortion activism, a feminist, social scientist, and publicist whose work has profoundly shaped the discourse on reproductive rights in Poland.

As an author and scholar, she has researched abortion from sociological and legal perspectives, bringing critical insights into the lived experiences of those seeking reproductive care. However, it is her activism that has made her a household name, as she is the co-founder of two groundbreaking organizations: Abortion Dream Team and Abortion without Borders. Abortion Dream Team has played a transformative role in shifting the Polish narrative around abortion. This radical reframing originating in this group, that culminated in the now-iconic slogan, ‘Abortion is OK’ had immense impact, challenging deeply entrenched stigma and changing public perception.

In addition to her advocacy within Poland, Broniarczyk co-founded Abortion Without Borders, a transnational network that helps Polish people access abortion services in other European countries. Most recently, Broniarczyk has been instrumental in establishing Abotak, Poland’s first abortion clinic, a historic breakthrough for reproductive rights in the country. Through her fearless activism and unwavering commitment, she continues to be a driving force in the Polish feminist movement, making real and tangible change in the fight for abortion access. In October 2023, Broniarczyk received an award from the European Union for her work on abortion rights.
